Our Campaign's Purpose
EQUAL OPPORTUNITY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL. REALLY.
America teaches her young that she provides equal justice and opportunity for all - not equal justice and opportunity for all except if you're a person of color or if you’re poor.
America teaches her young that under her legal system, you are innocent until proven guilty - not that you are innocent until proven guilty except if you're a person of color or if you’re poor.
America teaches her youth that ours is a government of, by, and for the people, not a government of, by, and for the people, except if you're a person of color or if you’re poor.
So that claims of providing equal justice and opportunity to all people do not seem like a trickster's mockery to the ears of low-income NYers and Americans and do not come across as a chauvinist’s lie to NYers and Americans of color.
So that America, starting with the Big Apple, will progress to the place where it adheres to its promise for freedom and liberty for all people, for the presumption of innocence for all people, for a government of, by, and for all the people.
To use the campaign as an opportunity to aggressively press forward on a range of social, economic, and racial justice issues that de Blasio, to frame it mildly, has failed to address effectively. These failures, all too common among mainstream liberal politicians, severely undercut any credible claim he makes to wear the progressive mantle.
To move beyond the lip service claims that NYC is a great progressive town and to enact the sweeping economic, social, and racial justice reforms that will make NY a truly just, safe, affordable, and inclusive city for all NYers.
To expose the hard and harsh truths about our city's policing and criminal justice policies and practices -- that they are blatantly racist and deeply inhumane and that they harm people, mainly the most vulnerable groups living amongst us, every day.
To help strengthen the movement already underway in our town and country that advances government policies that will lead to a more just, livable, safe, affordable, and inclusive city and nation. To help create a better, much better world.
Now We Will.
